16 times Club Champion changes to the “Big Stick”
In fine, but windy conditions 58 players took to Machrihanish Golf Club last Saturday to contest the Centenary Cup.
It was the inaugural outing for former Club Champion, Stuart Campbell experimenting with a change from a standard putter to a belly putter, and it started out well, getting through the seventh at 2 under par.
Momentum was slowed with a couple of bogeys to finish the outward on level par but things were about to get interesting at the 11th which was playing straight into a strong wind.
Stuart opted for a 3 wood off the tee to get safely onto the centre of the green, however on approach to the green Stuart was advised by playing partner, Kelly, that there would be no need for the big stick on this occasion as the ball was in the hole!
The “hole in one” was followed by 6 pars on the way home to finish with a 69-2=67 which will probably result in the big stick making an appearance over the coming weeks.
Winter League super sub, Ray Mitchell also made a good effort to take runner up with 9 pars and a birdie for a 77-9=69, which was closely followed by Colin Lang with 78-9=69.
As well as Stuart’s eagle at the 11th, N J Maccallum produced a rare eagle 3 at the par 5, 12th.
Other results:
Junior: Andrew Wallace (80-11=69)
Senior: A Anderson (103-26=77)
Lowest Gross: David Graham 74
