The Machrihanish Golf Club

The last Open competition of the Machrihanish Golf Club season got underway last Saturday, with the Commercial Inn better Ball Open which attracted a full entry.

Conditions were typical for the course with a wind assisted outward followed by the much tougher inward to test the field, playing in a pair’s format.

At the close of play in the handicap section it was the “Flintstones” pairing of Bob Tait and Hector Thomson who raced round the course with a net score of 62 to win comfortably by 3 strokes over Ranald Watson and Robert Coffield with a 65.

Nigel Stewart was rewarded for making the long trip up from Brighton with a third place, playing along with Charles McLellan, and also finishing with a 65.

The scratch prize went to Fergus Walker and Gavin Brown with 70.
