The golf club's "major" was played for over the last two weekends and produced a new, first time winner. Revie Thomson won his maiden Club Championship with a narrow, single stroke victory over Steven Gilmour following the completion of 72 holes of strokeplay last Sunday (14 th June).
Revie, the grandson of nine times former club champion and former Machrihanish Golf Club professional Arthur Thomson, made his move on the third round with a fine par round of 70 to draw level with the half-way leader Alan O'Neill. In the final round a solid score of 74 was enough to overtake the third round leader, Steven Gilmour, and win by the narrowest of margins.
Alan O'Neill faded over the last two rounds to finish in third place, only two shots behind, but had the consolation of winning the Seniors' championship. Fourth place went to last year's champion and five times winner, George MacMillan.
The weather on both weekends was completely mixed. The first two rounds were played in severe winds, particularly during the opening round when the course was almost unplayable at times with gusts of up to 40-50mph. The final two rounds were played in much calmer and warmer conditions.
