Members Newsletter - 15th February 2019

EGM - the date, time and location of an EGM was published locally in last week's Campbeltown Courier. For Members living outside the immediate area the details are as follows: the EGM will be held on Friday 1st March at 7:30pm in The Argyll Arms Hotel, Campbeltown.
G1 Architects, our appointed architects, will present their plans and proposals including floor plans, elevations and some external 3D visualisations. They will explain and outline their brief, which is based largely on the results of the recent Survey Monkey exercise. We had 369 responses to this survey within the allotted timeframe and are conscious that in some cases a single response was actually a response from a couple or a family as Survey Monkey will only allow one response per email address. The results of this have been shared with all of the professional parties involved in the project. Following the presentation, Members present with voting rights will be asked to vote on the motion:

'The Committee proposes the motion that Members approve the plans for the new clubhouse at Machrihanish Golf Club'.

Notional Re-instatement - this is an important part of the process where the Quantity Surveyors calculate what it would cost to re-instate the clubhouse as it was exactly before the fire. This figure has been calculated by our Quantity Surveyor and been submitted to the Loss Adjusters. The calculated figure includes the improvements that would have to be in place to meet today's building regulations and standards. When they approve the figure this then becomes the budget that we have for the rebuild. We are hoping that the Loss Adjusters will confirm the figure this week.

Pace of the project - from the start the Committee have been aware of the need to move this rebuild project on as quickly and as efficiently as possible. We are aware that there will be periods of intense activity followed by periods of less visible activity where a lot of background work will be taking place. The need for momentum and pace is determined by the insurance cover. We at Machrihanish like almost all businesses had 2 years Business Interruption Cover in our policy. This means that for 2 years from the date of the fire the insurance company will cover us for the essential costs of running the business and for costs arising out of the fire. For example, the Portacabin accommodation which has been put in place at the club this week is paid for by the insurance up to the 19th December 2020. If there is a need to retain that provision after that date, the cost of it then falls to the Club. You can see therefore that it is important that we move forward as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Portacabins. The Portacabin village has been installed and will be ready for use as soon as an electricity supply is connected. This is situated on the back corner of the car park behind the Ladies Locker Room. The lockers are scheduled for delivery and installation on the 26th February so all should be up and working in time for the start of the new season starting with The Peace Cup on 16th March.
Currently, only the Ladies Locker Room and the Professional's Shop have an electricity supply. This means that if you have a battery stored at the Club it will not be charging. We are hoping to have an electricity supply soon but until then you would find it better to charge your battery at home so that you know it will power your trolley around the course when needed.

Insurance payouts - These are beginning to come through from the insurance company for Members who have submitted a claim. In all cases, once Adele in the office has received confirmation of a settlement from the insurance company she will follow the agreed procedure and issue a letter and cheque to the Member. In line with the requirements of the insurance company this is the only way that payments will be made to Members.

Professional's Shop News -Jennie continues to offer an internet price match for Members buying new clubs and golf bags. She is also pleased to announce that she is extending her 25% off clothing promotion until the end of March to allow Members getting settlements to take advantage of this great offer.
Anthony continues to offer a Calloway club fitting service and as usual appointments can be made by phoning the shop on 01586 810277.
