Machrihanish Golf Club hosted the Charity Open in aid of the local branches of the MacMillan Cancer Support and Children 1st organisations.
On yet another extremely windy day, the 110 players were presented with very tough scoring conditions. Despite this, some great scores were returned.
David Rankin, who has only recently finished his year as captain of the golf club, came out on top in the gents' handicap section with a brilliant 76. Having reached the turn in par, with nine straight pars, David dropped shots on the more testing inward half, his worst hole being the 12th recording a double bogey 7. However, he held on to shoot a nett 68 to win by three shots from playing partner, Stuart Campbell. Stuart, a former club champion, had the winning scratch score with a most impressive 71 which included two birdies and three bogeys.
At the evening prize giving, club captain, Graham Anderson, presented Ailsa Colville (Children 1st) and Lorna Millar (MacMillan Cancer Support) with cheques of £500 each from the proceeds on the day.
