March and April Competition Results

The 2015 season is now well underway and already there is an early season contender for the best round of the year. David Campbell won the opening competition (Torpedo Cup) with a superb 71 less 4 nett 67. In very testing conditions, both weather and ground, David finished with three birdies in his closing four holes to record a single stroke victory over Jamie Graham. A series of long putts and a holed bunker shot paved the way for an excellent score. Jamie pushed David all-the-way and back-to-back birdie twos at the 15 th and 16 th resulted in a close finish.
Another player showing early season promise is Bobby Dalziel who captured the Thunderer Cup with an 81, nett 65. A strong finish with threes at 13, 15 and 16 elevated Bobby to his first trophy success at Machrihanish. Scott Armstrong was runner up with a nett 68 and proved that was no fluke by winning the stableford competition the following day. Not overawed by his success, Bobby then lifted the Peace Cup the following week. In outrageous weather conditions, Bobby was one of 22 players to brave the elements. A score of 90, nett 76 was enough to win his second competition in successive weeks.

Over the Easter weekend, the Carskiey Cross & April Medal attracted 49 competitors who competed in extremely windy conditions. Paul McWhirter, home on holiday, was victorious with a fantastic score of 70. Paul mixed five birdies with 5 bogies to record a fine par round and win by 4 strokes from last year's Captain's Prize winner, Liam Finn. Liam's triple bogies at the 14 th and 16 th proving very costly.
The April Stableford was won by Steven Dott with an outrageous 46 points. Steven returned to form, after an injury plagued 2014 season, with a great score of 81. The round contained twos at the 4 th and 18 th - Steven holing a long putt through the gulley in front of the 18 th green to gain an unlikely 5 points. Runner-up was the in-form Bobby Dalziel.
