Rotary Open

The Rotary Open, in aid of the South Kintyre senior citizens, was hosted by Machrihanish Golf Club on Saturday 9th August.  On a fine, sunny day with the early starters playing in windy conditions, the scoring was extremely low. The course was presented in excellent condition with fast running greens. The winner of the gents’ section was James McAdam with a superb 71 less 7 nett 64. James, having recently moved to the local area and in his first year as a member of the golf club,  recorded a fantastic 17 pars and a solitary bogey at the 5th to add the Rotary Open to the George Durnan Trophy he won earlier in the season and pip Duncan McMillan on the count back rule. Duncan, at home from university for the summer, continued his fine recent form with a great round which included 2 birdies and 6 bogeys. The third nett 64 was posted by visitor Gavin Wilson who shot an excellent 67 playing off a handicap of 3. Gavin’s round, which included 5 birdies, resulted in the consolation of picking up the best scratch prize ahead of David Campbell and George MacMillan who both shot par rounds of 70. The winning lady on the day was Carradale’s Laura McGeachy who returned a truly impressive 74 less 5 nett 69.

Campbeltown Rotary Club’s president, Laurens Denson, thanked Machrihanish Golf Club for its continued support and also thanked those who had donated prizes and the competitors for taking part. He handed over a cheque for £1,000 to Mrs Margaret Turner in aid of the South Kintyre senior citizens.
