Machrihanish Golf Club - Gents' results
26th April Centenary Trophy (CSS 72, 56 Played)
Machrihanish's Jamie Graham put his local
knowledge to great use winning the Centenary Trophy in very
blustry conditions. Brother of the 2012 club champion, David,
Jamie proved good golf runs in the family with his score
opitimised by consistency. Jamie bogeyed every hole from the 8th
to the 18th to record a fine score of 85, nett 65 to
win by two shots from Iain Reid and Graham McMillan. The reward
for winning the competition is a place in the Lombard Trophy
regional final qualifier where Jamie and local professional, Ken
Campbell, will compete for a slot in the grand final, played last
year at Gleneagles.
Stuart Campbell continued his fine early season form with another solid performance, winning the lowest gross score prize with an excellent 72.
Robert Wallace rolled back the years with a fine nett 68 to win the seniors section with a narrow single stroke success against friend Roy McMurchy.
Meanwhile, in the junior event, Soren Hundeboll put in a gutsy performance in a day where the windy conditions resulted in a large number of the field posting non-returns.
1st Jamie Graham 85-20=65
2nd Iain Reid 85-18=67 (BIH)
3rd Graham McMillan 86-19=67
Scratch - Stuart Campbell 72
Senior - Robert Wallace 87-19=68
Junior - Valdemar Hundeboll 105-17=88
27th April Shield Fourball
David Campbell and Neil McCallum continue to dominate this pairs competition reeling off a hat trick of wins in as many years. On yet another extremely windy day, the winning pair returned a nett 65 better ball score to win by one shot from their closest rivals. Playing with runners up Ian McGougan and Finlay Wylie, Neil and David were pushed all the way but managed to hang on to retain the trophy for yet another year.
The father and son combination of David and Andrew Wallace resulted in a gross score of 72 which was enough to win the scratch prize by the narrowest of margins, a birdie on the last hole separating the 72's by virtue of the count back rule. Three twos on the scorecard most certainly helped their cause.
1st David Campbell & Neil
McCallum Nett 65
2nd Ian McGougan & Finlay Wylie 66 (BIH)
3rd Craig Colville & Charles Robertson 66
Scratch - David Wallace & Andrew Wallace 72 (Best last hole)
3rd May Coronation Cup (Bogey) (CSS 72, 43 Played)
Veteran Archie Johnstone showed the youger boys how it should be done with a three up winning score in the bogey competition. Out in a superb one under par 34 and six up against the course, Archie was in blistering form. Unable to maintain such a high standard, Archie slowed down coming home. However, his great score was still 3 clear of the chasing pack with Donald MacKinnon and Eric Capocci, 2nd and 3rd, respectively, both shooting level against bogey.
1st Archie Johnstone 3up
2nd Donald MacKinnon level (BIH)
3rd Eric Capocci level
Senior - Roddy Jackson
