Machrihanish Golf Club - Spring Meeting and Captain's Prize
The Spring Meeting and Captain's Prize was played for on Saturday 19th April in extremely testing conditions. The stiff breeze and tricky greens combined to make the scoring very difficult. However, on a day of glorious sunshine, Liam Finn produced a magnificent score of 81 less18, nett 63 to triumph by a massive 6 shots over his other 104 challengers.The platform for Liam's excellent score was an outward nine of 39 which contained a birdie at the 3rd and four pars. A steady inward half of 42 saw Liam shoot his lowest score over the challenging links course. The emphatic victory saw Liam take the 2014 captain, David Rankin's prize of a golf GPS garmin watch . Runner up on nett 69 was S Aikman with John Lamont securing third place with a nett 70. The Gold Medal, awarded to the best gross score, was won by former club champion, George MacMillan with a brilliant 69. George's round started with a bogey and was immediately followed with a birdie at the 2nd. Another birdie at the 10th along with 15 pars was enough to see off another past champion, Stuart Campbell, by three shots. The CSS on the day was 73.

In the ladies section, played on the Pans 9 hole course,captain, Hilary Oman, was delighted to present winner, Jennifer Gilchrist, with a golf bag. Jennifer who is in her first competitive year, is in great early season form. In a field of 20, Jennifer's score of 102-35, nett 67 was enough to secure a one stroke victory over Nicola MacNeil, with Cathie Armour and Margaret Robertson next on nett 69. Nicola, however, won the lowest gross score with an excellent 80. The CSS was 68.
On Sunday 20th April, Machrihanish hosted Dunaverty in the return leg of the McNeill Cup. On a beautiful day,Machrihanish were victorious by 3.5 to 2.5. The large winning score by Dunaverty in the first leg proved too difficult for Machrihanish to overcome and the 7-5 overall match result saw the cup regained by Dunaverty.
This weekend sees the Easter Club celebrating their 50th year of golfing at Machrihanish. Over these many years numerous friendships with the locals have been struck and continue to this day. A warm welcome will given the the Easter Club in recognition of their friendship and support of the club over such a long period.
